Fresh Finds | October: Mixtape

It’s that time again – a look at our new favourite hip hop tracks that have been launched into the atmosphere over the atmosphere over the last month.

Serato Fresh Finds

This is a particularly good batch, especially if you’re a trap fan.

Let’s crack in.

21 Savage x Metro Boomin – Mr. Right Now feat. Drake

In 2016, rapper 21 Savage and producer Metro Boomin came together to bring the collaborative EP Savage Mode. Both were still coming up in the scene at the time, but Savage Mode was their stake in the ground. It propelled them into the stratosphere, with singles like ‘X’ and ‘No Heart’ becoming worldwide hits.

Four years later, with almost no warning, the pair delivered Savage Mode II. Oftentimes follow up records can be difficult as its predecessor captured the hearts of fans during that specific time. This isn’t like that.

Savage Mode II is incredible – some have even said better – than the first edition. To kick off your listening, check Mr. Right Now. Drake has a verse on it. Enough said.

A$AP Nast – Designer Boi feat. D33J

One of the more unsung heroes of the A$AP Mob, A$AP Nast has traditionally offered up gangster rap with hard hitting beats.

On Designer Boi, he recruits D33J to join him for a sonic exploration. This is a soft, melodically driven trap song with autotune manipulating his voice in all the right places.

It’s different, but it works. We’re right into this new direction Nasty is taking. Hopefully the first of many like these.

Big Sean – Wolves feat. Post Malone

Eight years since the release of Detroit, Big Sean is back with Detroit 2. His first release in over three years, he’s admitted that releasing Detroit 2 was a tall mountain to climb, but a summit worth seeing.

It’s the Big Sean you know and love – deep, sinister bars with the beat to match. Post Malone tags alone to add the effortless high register vocal sheen, as he always does.

Internet Money – Lemonade (Remix)  feat. Don Toliver and Roddy Ricch

After the sensational release of ‘Lemonade’ earlier in the year, producer collective Internet Money couldn’t help themselves.

They’ve put out a remix of the song, retaining the original hook vocal from Cactus Jack affiliate Don Toliver. The surprise ingredient is a new verse from Roddy Ricch, who has absolutely exploded out of the woodwork this year with the release of his debut album Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial.

It just hits. That’s all there is to it.

Travis Scott – FRANCHISE feat. Young Thug and M.I.A

Travis Scott and Young Thug are no strangers to each other in the studio. Have collaborated on hits like ‘Pick Up the Phone’ and ‘The London’, the two reunite for FRANCHISE with the help of M.I.A.

A dark trap song where Trav and Thugger bounce back and forth, trading bars, with M.I.A roaring in at the end with commanding vocals. Travis said he’s been trying to land a M.I.A collab for quite some time. Looks like he’s finally done it.
